Bi-Lo: Saving Without Coupons! + Bi-lo trip 5/9/12

As many of you know, my life has been a whirlwind the past few months, I have moved and moved back, I have been in the hospital with my daughter and at many Dr. apointments. Needless to say in the mist of chaos, I have not bought a Sunday paper in.... well since the end of JAN! ( I KNOW YIKES!!) To make it even better Des shoved monopoly pieces in my printer and broke it, so my binder looks... skinny- for lack of better words. I find that the coupons I need, I don't have and the coupons I have won't do much for me that week. So my question is ...

can you save at Bi-Lo without coupons?
Well of course you can!!!

  • You can shop the sales that week. When Bi-Lo offers a buy one get one sale, each item rings up half price. Even if you don't buy two, you are still getting that one item 50% off! I usually try to always get 2 when they offer BOGO sales though. It's a great stockup point, especially without coupons.

  • Also take advantage of closeouts- this is often times the lowest price you will see a product either because the store is no longer going to sale it or because it is being discontinued all together.

  • You can also take advantage of meat items that are marked down because of the date. often times you will see little yellow stickers that contain a coupon off that meat product. These are great buys because you can buy the item at its lowest price and freeze it for a later date. ( It is very RARE to fine meat product coupons- so take advantage of these markdowns)

  • Take advantage of the BOGO meat sales: when Bi-Lo offers BOGO sale on meat, they package 2 similar priced packages together, placing a BOGO sticker over the lower priced pack. It's a good deal to stockup on with the pricey meats such as roasts etc.

Here is an example of how I saved at Bi-Lo with NO COUPONS! ( trip date 5/9/12)

4 trident gum - on closeout
4 kraft dressing - on sale 2 for $4
6 crystal light - on BOGO sale
5 lindsay olives- on closeout
2 croutons - on sale for $1 each
2 shredded cheese- on sale for $1.98
1 single serve chocolate milk- (I was thirsty)
1 pack of chicken- on BOGO sale so I actually got two packs
2 lunch meat- on sale $1.99 each
2 cantaloupe- on sale 2 for $5
1 red leaf lettuce- on BOGO sale
1 green leaf lettuce- on BOGO sale
2 romaine lettuce- on BOGO sale
1 grape tomato - on sale for $2.50
2 pack mushroom- on BOGO sale
1 24pack water- on sale $3.99
 total spent:$66.67
total saved: $43.02

As you can see, I spent more than I saved, But I still saved a nice chunk of change on items that don't normally have coupons ( well the majority of them atleast). Sure if I had had the current coupons available, I could have saved another $20 or so, but I didn't have them so I am very satisfied with the outcome of my NO COUPONS trip.
